Business Conclave

It was an aura of festivities at the SAI International College of Commerce for the 2-days of the SICC Business Conclave 2018 from October 30 to 31, 2018. It was inaugurated on Tuesday, October 30, 2018. And a row of events followed. It gave an opportunity to the students who participated in the annual extravaganza to learn and discover their potentials in a new and unprecedented way. The conclave gave newer dimension to the students ready to explore the world outside and become future leaders

SICC witnessed the graced presence of esteemed dignitaries. The Conclave was inaugurated by Chief Guest Shri R Balakrishnan, IAS, Development Commissioner and other Guests of Honour present were Shri Soumendra Mohan Patnaik, Honourable Vice Chancellor, Utkal University and Shri Mahendra Gupta, Managing Director, Gupta Power Infrastructure Ltd. The while the Closing ceremony was held on October 31, 2018 in the esteemed presence of His Excellency, Shri Ganeshi Lal, Hon’ble Governor of Odisha and Chairman SAI International Group Dr. Bijoy K Sahoo.

Chief Guest Shri Balakrishnan, IAS, Development Commissioner said, “Bhubaneshwar is emerging as the knowledge hub and a capital of education of Eastern India and the commerce college has come up with a conducive atmosphere for the students for those who want to pursue commerce as a stream”. He enlightened the students by sharing the economic structure of the Indus valley civilization and how India needs to rediscover itself by getting inspired from the past and emerge as the economic super power. He said, “Trade and commerce is on our blood we just need to rediscover ourselves and work in cohesion to achieve success as a country”.

Shri Mahendra Gupta, Managing Director, Gupta Power Infrastructure Ltd., said “a good beginning is half the victory and by joining a renowned institution, the students have already won half the battle”. He believes having an idea to start a business is not everything but it should be backed by the right ardor and fervor. Odisha is a growing state and a land of immense opportunities with the GDP of 8.78% in 2014-15 which is 20% higher than India’s GDP. It is poised to grow by 12% by 2020. Odisha is the heartland of India’s mineral deposit of 3.64 billion dollars which is more than the aggregate value of the 21 other states and 20% of India’s total steelmaking capacity. He remarked that 1.26 lakhs students graduate every year from Odisha and it is the 2nd most employable graduates in India. He emphasized that domain based regional universities lead to the growth of the regional economy and further contributes in the national growth and the growth in the percentage of skilled professionals.

Guest of Honour Shri Soumendra Mohan Patnaik, Honourable Vice Chancellor, Utkal University said, “, a good teacher speaks less and listens more, which helps a teacher to understand the needs of students, similarly the essence of a good entrepreneur is understanding others i.e. the clients, customers, business partners and the society: its culture and tradition”.  He accentuated that students should think out of the box not just to become successful entrepreneurs but also become good human beings and become the epitome of culture with higher values.

His Excellency, Shri Ganeshi Lal, Hon’ble Governor of Odisha shared his profound words of enlightenment and quoted the Bhagwad Gita and recited  few verses from the Gita, specially on the cardinal principles of life called; Karma Yoga, “Karmanye Vadhikaraste, Ma phaleshou kada chana, Ma Karma Phala Hetur Bhurmatey Sangostva Akarmani” addressing the students, he said, “Doing business is uplifting the nation but doing business by creating unrest in the society leads to deterioration of the society and the nation as a whole. It is not wrong to fulfill your dreams in materialist way but should be done keeping in mind the society and nation”. He appealed to the student to become the torch bearers of enlightened nationalism and that is only possible if one replaces business by behavior. He quoted,” Internationalism is the natural evolution of enlightened nationalism”. He also stressed upon recycling, cleanliness, creating pollution free environment and to work towards achieving a clean nation.

Speaking on the occasion Dr. Sahoo, Chairman SAI International Group said, “I’m deeply humbled and obliged by the graced presence of His Excellency, Shri Ganeshi Lal, Hon’ble Governor of Odisha at the Business Conclave, your presence has given us a boost to perform even better and give the best mentoring to the students. The conclave provides a platform which aims at rendering a deep and comprehensive understanding of the entrepreneurial journey and the dynamics of Business from scratch. It is completely of the students, by students and for the students”.

It gave a huge platform for the aspiring entrepreneurs to explore, identify and integrate their thoughts to fulfill their future goals by participating in the myriad of events spread across a plethora of domains like the Brain Boxers’ Bureau, Market Strike, Start-Up Disc, Quizzimodo, Extempore, Face Painting, Poster making and Drama-O-Cratic. More than 1500 students participated in the Business Conclave the schools and colleges that participated were DPS, ODM, KIIT, SAI International School, Birla Global School, DAV Chankdrashekhapur, DAV Kalinga, Xavier University Bhubaneshwar Christ University, Symbiosis College of Arts and Commerce, Sri Sri University, Mithibai College BJEM, BJB, Srusti Academy of Management, DAV School of Management, Trident College, IITM, DM School Bhubaneshwar, Utkal Law University.

A Felicitation ceremony was held at the SICC Business Conclave to recognize the students who performed exemplarily and secured their positions in the top ten ranking list in both accounting and management honors of Utkal University, B.Com Examination 2018. His Excellency, Shri Ganeshi Lal, Hon’ble Governor of Odisha gave away the awards to the rank holders.

Yasmin Ambari, Seebangi Dhal, Kunchita Samal and Chandra Sekhar Pradhan of Management Hons. secured the first, second, fifth and the ninth positions respectively, while in Accounting Hons. Akanksha Pani, Purbi Saberi Mohapatra and Mohita Mohapatra secured the fifth, seventh and the ninth positions.  It was a moment of immense pleasure for the parents of the students who received the recognition from the Governor of Odisha.

The felicitation ceremony was followed by the award distribution to the winners of various events that took place in the two days. The Team Directors and heads were also felicitated who had been on toes for the past three months preparing for the Business Conclave 2018.

Students ended the conclave with lots of fun in the celebrity night even. Bollywood singer Arindam Chakraborty and Odisha’s leading DJ, DJ Partha made the students on dance on their tunes.
